5 out of 5 stars HOW I PASSED THE PMP EXAM   November 20, 2008
Last week I passed the PMP exam on my first try. Here is how I passed, and you can too,
1.Join the PMI Institute. You will receive a free copy of the PMBOK Guide on CD. Buy the paperback PMBOK Guide from Amazon, you will want both.
2.Buy Rita Mulcaby's book, PMP Exam Prep.
3.On page 183 is a discount offer for her online course. You will need to take 35 hours of training, and this class will meet the requirements and prepare you for the test.
4.Do all of the exercises, and the "games" in the book.
5.Learn page 39 cold!
6.Purchase the PM FASTRACK EXAM SIMULATION from Amazon.
7.Review the "games," take the tests, until you are averaging 80% or better. Look up each question you missed in both the study guide, and PMBOK.
8.Take and pass the test.
It worked for me. You do not need any other resources or books. I bought some, but I ended up not even looking at them. The Mulcaby resources and the PMBOK Guide are all you really need.

4 out of 5 stars Good but not great   November 18, 2008
I have heard from many people that this is one of the best study guides for the PMP test. While I agree it is comprehensive, it is clearly written with the assumption that the reader is currently a project manager in a traditional, most likely technical, corporate environment. I have been a project manager in the construction industry and although many of my techniques are similar to those used in corporate america, I feel like we are speaking two different languages. I find myself stumbling over the terminology much more often than the concepts - or if I'm not getting the concept right away, it's because of the terminology, not the underlying logic. Hopefully, in the next edition, the author takes more time to introduce terminology and does not assume her reader already works for a large technical company.

I wish I could write a review of this product, unfortunately never received it and thus cannot review it neither. This is the very first time I have this problem with Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars PMP Exam Prep, Fifth Edition by Rita Mulcahy   October 16, 2008
This book is an awesome resource to understand Project Management and pass the PMP exam. Well worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Methods for Preparing for the Exam   October 14, 2008
Rita's book helped me prepare for, and pass, the exam by getting me into the mindset of the types of questions I would face on the exam. The book also goes well beyond what you would cover solely with the PMBOK and provides useful exercises to force you to understand the material. There are also dozens of useful 'nuggets' in the book that, not surprisingly, popped up on the exam for which I was prepared.
As has been noted by other reviews, the tone of the book can often be a little caustic and derogatory but I believe that that is the author's teaching style and it can be effective most times. However, reading the book more than once makes the style less abrasive ...
Overall, an excellent guide to getting ready and passing the exam on the first try.
