| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Now that the Internet has blossomed into the "Information Superhighway," with its traffic (and drivers) becoming increasingly diverse, security has emerged as a primary concern. This innovative new book offers you a global, integrated approach to providing Internet Security at the network layer. You get a detailed presentation of the revolutionary IPsec technology used today to create Virtual Private Networks and, in the near future, to protect the infrastructure of the Internet itself. The book addresses IPsecs major aspects and components to help you evaluate and compare features of different implementations. It gives you a detailed understanding of this cutting-edge technology from the inside, which enables you to more effectively troubleshoot problems with specific products. Based on standards documents, discussion list archives, and practitioners lore, this one-of-a-kind resource collects all the current knowledge of IPsec and describes it in a literate, clear manner.

Best book on IPsec March 15, 2006 I bought this book when I started working on IPsec. This book goes beyond the text of the IPsec RFCs to explain the workings of the protocols. It also explains the issues with the protocol and does a good job of explaining how to use IPsec for client VPNs. The minor downsides of the book are - its high price and in some cases lack of byte-level packet diagrams. The second is not much of a problem since they can be looked up in the RFCs.
You must own this book if you want to learn this topic.. June 4, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want to learn or research on this topic, this is the book you should read. In adddition, the writing style is excellent!
Outstanding March 22, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is simply outstanding. IPsec is a complicated topic, but this book explains it clearly while not losing any of the essential detail. As one previous reviewer said, you might need to read it more than once to really get a good grasp of the subject, but it is only 250 pages long (and small enough and light enough to carry in your laptop case pocket)! Don't get this book if you are looing for a 'Dummies..' kind of approach, but definately do get it if you really want to understand IPsec. So, five stars from me for the hardback edition (sounds like the electronic edition might be too much trouble [from what I read in a previous review]!).
Don't buy this!!! January 14, 2003 6 out of 17 found this review helpful
Do not buy this book!!! I got royally hosed on this. Since it's in E-Book format, you download it to your computer. You cannot print it, and you cannot transfer it to another machine. I wanted to rebuild my machine, but I can't because I will lose the $... book. They give you instructions on how to transfer the book to a new computer, but the publisher says to talk to Adobe, and Adobe says to talk to the publisher. I've been running around in circles!!! Supposedly the software recognizes the layout and config of your hard drive, so if you change it, the book will not be readable. What a rip-off. I understand completely that the publisher doesn't want people passing around free copies of their book, but hey, now I'm stuck not being able to change my computer, upgrade my hard drive, etc. If you don't care, and the $... is expendible to you, then go for it, but don't ever plan on changing your system. I hope you never need more hard drive space.
Not a Beginners book January 31, 2002 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is the most insightful IPSec book i have read to date but it is not a beginners book. The book is packed with so much knowledge that it sometimes does not take the time to give clear and concise examples of the theory. Throughout the book a list of references are used which are excellent. The book lacks some good examples with diagrams and is more of a dictionary on IPSec. I recommend this book to people who have at least some knowledge of IPSec.
