3 out of 5 stars Good first book to read   March 12, 2008

I read this as one of my first books on hypnosis and found it to be informative. It offered a basic outline of what to expect and how to use hypnosis in an effective manner. If you are not familiar with hypnosis, this will provide basic information that will be important to building a strong foundation in how you construct your hypnosis sessions. I found it encouraging to the new hypnotist, even reassuring that sessions will be successful. I now have been in practice for over ten years. In my opinion, reading it was time well spent. There certainly are better books out there, but one can gain insight from each one. I liked the author's ability to craft a script for each session, in theory it makes sense. In reality, I rarely used them, but it does give you something to say, until you know what to say.

4 out of 5 stars A nice starting point   January 22, 2008

I am only interesting in learning about hypnosis for personal use, not in starting a business or becoming a hypnotist. For this purpose, this book is fine. Many of the routines described I have previously ran across in other self help books. I don't know if the book is good hypnotizing other people or not. I've tried the routines on two people and I feel like it worked on one and not so well on the other. However, for personal meditative use, it's a pretty good read. Simply, easy, and to the point, but very basic.

.
This a great starting point for learning hypnosis. As the title says "For Beginners".

If you need more than that, this is not the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars The best basic book on Hypnosis   February 22, 2007

William Hewitt has always been my mentor, for years I've studied his work and followed his understanding of Hypnosis and after many years of doing Hypnotherapy I am still learning from this fantastic writer. Thank you for all you have done in the name of Hypnotherapy.... Hershey Hypnosis Center, J.H. Dalton C.Ht.

4 out of 5 stars Good place to start.   March 5, 2006

Hypnosis for Beginners was a good place to start off with learning hypnotism. Hewitt explains a little bit about the history, and what is going on in the brain when hypnosis is induced. This book is directed more towards clinical/therapy types of hypnosis, however I added my own words to make it into an entertaining night with my friends. Hewitt's induction methods are good, but it is a lot of page turning to follow his lead. Hewitt has several scripts for specific therapy, and detailed instructions on self-hypnosis, also. Overall this is a good book if you want to learn to how induce hypnosis, but it does take a little practice and creativity so your "victim" is thinking about relaxing, and not how inexperienced you are.
