Product Description In the three seconds it takes you to walk through a door and extend your hand to someone for the first time, that person has already made irreversible judgments about you. You send out hundreds of signals about yourself, and people read those signals and react to them long before you've had a chance to say or do anything of substance.
Camille Lavington is a communications consultant who commands substantial fees for teaching personal marketing to business people from corporate executives to mid-level managers. In You've Only Got Three Seconds, she shares her strategies for defining your personal career goals, taking inventory of your strengths and vulnerabilities, and determining what you must do, say, and wear in order to fit the role you want to fulfill.
Personal marketing isn't about social cimbing or trying to be someone you're not. Success at the end of the millennium comes to people who are versatile, who can make positive impressions in any group, who can peg their peers' or superiors' secret agendas, and use psychodynamics to get what they want. With this book, people from entry-level job applicants to stymied executives will be ready to take their internal and external makeovers into the world, make a smashing first impression, and follow through with finesse.

Fantastic February 17, 2008 A great guide to interpersonal relationships and professional image. Every professional should read it. To completely polish your professional image, a couple good etiquette references and a book on professional dress are also a great investment.
One area lacking in most all general business etiquette references is a complete discussion of business meals. A lot of business takes place during meals and dining etiquette is an area that should not be ignored. I recommend Essential Etiquette Fundamentals, Vol. 1: Dining Etiquette and Essential Etiquette Fundamentals, Vol. 2: Wine Selection & Etiquette. They answer every question I ever had and even answered many questions I did not even know enough to ask.
Professional dress is another important area. For men, Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion is a great book to read to learn more about dressing well. Another often overlooked, but important area. Style and the Man: How and Where to Buy Fine Mens' Clothes is another good choice.
Complicated & Contrite January 2, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you are an average, down to earth middle-class citizen, this book might not be for you. I'm a working class girl and bought this book to check into making better impressions, both at work and socially. I found this book marketed toward upper level executives, CEO's and high-level management types. Most of the scenarios (both professionally and socially) did not fit me. This book is overcomplicated and hard to read. What more can I say - waste of time.
A MUST READ for anyone desiring to get ahead in life!!! January 4, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is a fascinating and very accessible guide to self packaging, covering far more than just manners and appearance. Authored by Camille Lavington, a brilliant, dynamic, witty former corporate executive and socialite, this impressive book shares her saavy and secrets about breaking into and rising in the business and social scene. She's been there, done it, and risen to the heights of the corporate, business and society worlds, and generously shares many of her secrets and lessons. A delightful "must read" for anyone seeking business, social or person success!!!
Rapport building January 4, 2007 Great book for demonstrating rapport building importance and how it can easily be done.
Looking for simliar book December 28, 2005 1 out of 12 found this review helpful
I found this book while trying to find a book I first heard about in the early 80's. I believe the title was something like "Contact: The First Three Seconds". I'm hoping someone will read this and assist me with the actual title and/or Author of the book.
