If you plan a future of effectively engaging volunteers, this is a must!!! October 9, 2008 Working with one of the world's largest volunteer driven organizations, I have access to all kinds of Volunteer Management tools. This one is DIFFERENT. Times are changing and if we plan to make the shift necessary to meet the needs and expectations of the Boomer Generation, we need the tools and ideas outlined in this book. Thank you for writing such an insightful book on this important topic of Engaging Boomers.
A Book You Can Use! September 10, 2008 "Boomer Volunteer Engagement: Collaborate Today, Thrive Tomorrow" begins with the following words: "Imagine a world in which your nonprofit organization has all the resources it needs to serve more clients, deliver more programs, strengthen its staff, spread its message more widely, and increase its financial stability." The authors then proceed to lay out a comprehensive plan - with practical step-by-step instructions - to help organizations realize that ambitious but achievable goal. "Boomer Volunteer Engagement" provides a conceptual and contextual framework for each step, without getting mired in theory. I particularly appreciate how easy it is to navigate the book; and the tools in the Appendix are invaluable. I strongly recommend this book as a study-guide for nonprofit organizations' staff and boards, as they consider how to utilize the growing resource of the Boomer generation...and then do so.
A Must Read for Everyone Who Works With Volunteers! July 17, 2008 This book really represents a much needed cultural shift away from the "volunteer management" style of working with volunteers to a process that engages volunteers in every aspect of their experience. It has made a tremendous difference in the way I work with all volunteers, not only Boomer age volunteers. It is a sensical approach that has so much validity in the non profit world. I highly recommend it.
Rural or Metro, every volunteer program should have this book! July 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Our small rural volunteer program was facing a huge issue: Rejuvenate or Die. By using this book, and putting theory into practice, we are now experiencing growth in new programming, volunteer recruitment and community buy-in. Our collaborative efforts are bearing great fruit and we are becoming the "re-newed" thriving hub for volunteers in all of our service area and beyond.
This book is worth its weight in gold.
A Must for Anyone Working with Volunteers! June 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is enlightening, useful, and easy to read. The authors have distilled a lot of information about Boomers and make it clear and relevant. The process they lay out for engaging volunteers in new ways will really help my school/organization. The exercises are useful and have inspired me to engage my faculty and parent volunteers in new, collaborative ways.
