I used this book as secondairy source of information December 27, 2008
I've done an semi instructer led classroom training, where I recieved the Microsoft official Course book (MOC) aswell. I used this book to lookup the subjects that weren't covered in the MOC book.
Also after the training with the MOC was finished I used this book to read up about the subjects I failed in the test exams, because this book has a different way of explaning things.
After 4 weeks I passed this exam, but hey it is an windows XP exam, if I still don't know much about it I won't be calling me a IT proffesional :-).
This exam has a lot of subjects that you are probably not familiar with so read the book...
Also the 70-290 exam is quite simular, so you should be able to do that one with ease to after this one.

I used this book along with the Exam Cram 70-270 book (ISBN 0789733609). I just passed the exam with a score of 889 on 12-24-08. This book definitely helps alot, but you will need more. No one book touches on every subject, so it is good to get 1 or 2 additional ones to help. I suggest doing external reading for IIS and Terminal Services, because this book barely touched upon either. If your an absolutely beginner, the book introduces XP Pro SP2 very well, and very easy to understand. If your not a beginner, it is still great because it delves deep into some of the features XP Pro has. My only big gripe with the book was that it did not come with resource CD (which had around 300 practice questions, all of which were way harder than the actual exam), and it took Microsoft around 3 months to ship it to me.
Study hard, and you will pass. This book will definitely help you along the way. Well worth the money

This book and CD are excellent aids to your study's. I found them very helpful. I would recommend them to anyone who is studying xp for their certifications.

I ordered this product, and the product key for Windows XP did not work. Amazon.com proceeded to tell me that they needed to ship me an entirely new shipment, rather than send me a valid product key. I recieved the new package, send the defective one back, and tried to install XP Professional. Upon installing the second time, the product hung at the license agreement. Do not buy this book. The only reson I bought the book was for the trial XP software, but I would like to have been sent a working copy!

It goes in better depth with hands on labs to work with while you learn or fine tune for the test.
