Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
#1 New York Times bestseller Nicholas Sparks turns his unrivaled talents to a new tale about love found and lost, and the choices we hope we'll never have to make.

Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life - boating, swimming , and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies -- he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, THE CHOICE ultimately confronts us with the most heartwrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?

5 out of 5 stars excellent   November 23, 2008
moving story which touches upon the issues of advance directives. this book can be a starting point for discussions of this very important topic among families.

5 out of 5 stars Very touching story   November 17, 2008
The Choice is about two neighbors, a man named Travis and a woman named Gabby. Gabby finds out her purebread dog is pregnant and is furious. She has never spoke with her neighbor before, but she assumes his dog is the one who got hers pregnant. She storms over to his house and screams at him about it. Although this is their first encounter, Travis is infatuated by Gabby and decides to try as hard as he can to get to know her. They come to find out they are a perfect match for each other. The only problem is Gabby is already dating a man named Kevin, who until she met Travis was planning to marry.

I loved this book! I laughed out loud a couple of times and I cried a couple of times. I have read a few others by Nicholas Sparks and they all had basically the same theme. Man marrys woman. Woman dies. Man meets new woman, but cant get over 1st woman. This one is totally different. Travis is a single man, who has never really had any serious relationships. Everything about this book has something to do with making a choice. This book is a quick read...I read most of it while I was flying to and from my destination. Then once I got home, the first thing I did was sit down and finish the last 30 pages. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars How far would you go if you truly love someone?   November 13, 2008
True to form, Nicholas Sparks unfolds a triumphant tale of love and loss. When Travis Parker unexpectedly meets his new neighbor, tensions immediately begin to rise. Travis makes every effort to be a good neighbor, but despite all of his efforts it seems that he can never do anything right. Gabby, it seems, is quite simply impossible to please.

Travis spends his days living the single life that would make most bachelors envious. He lives for adventure and has no need outside of the companionship of his few close friends and faithful dog. Gabby on the other hand, is a modern, independent woman building a career while she awaits the proposal of her long-time boyfriend.

Despite their differences Travis and Gabby manage to build a working friendship, but that would all change in a single weekend with the materialization of an unexpected romance and the complications that would come with it.

Through a series of unexpected events, Travis and Gabby, would both be pushed to their personal limits, risk losing their love, and inevitably, in their own ways, have to answer two life-altering questions: How far should you go for love? And, at what point do you decide to give up hope?

5 out of 5 stars Great!!!   November 9, 2008
I simply loved it.....I love NS and all his writings! I have a few that I have not read but after reading this one I feel it is time that I get started. It is a wonderful love story that will have you crying and rejoicing for the couple at the end.

3 out of 5 stars Have tissues...   November 3, 2008
Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life -- boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies -- he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Despite his attempts to be neighborly, the appealing redhead seems to have a chip on her shoulder about him...and the presence of her longtime boyfriend doesn't help. Despite himself, Travis can't stop trying to ingratiate himself with his new neighbor, and his persistent efforts lead them both to the doorstep of a journey that neither could have foreseen. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heartwrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?

I really like Nicholas Sparks as a writer. I think he creates very believeable characters. The plots can sometimes be a little schmaltzy, but then sometimes that's not a bad thing either. His books are definately character driven. I found Gabby a little bit hard to connect with. The introduction made her somewhat unlikeable, and while she grew throughout the book, some of her choices and attitudes left me shaking my head a bit. The conflict that our man Travis faces at the end of the book is heartwrenching though and really made me question what would I do in that situation. While I didn't like this book as well as some of his other books, Nicholas Sparks delivers another good read and I enjoyed it.
