Best prep for passing PMP exam March 4, 2010 Zvezda (Rochester, MN United States) I started out studying for the PMP exam using a variety of materials (audio CD's, flash cards, PowerPoints, books).
In the end I just stuck with Rita's book "PMP Exam Prep". Lot's of great tips for passing the exam in Chapters 1 and 14. I know these tips helped me get a few more questions correct when I had narrowed the choice to two answers but wasn't sure which one. Lot's of "Tricks of the Trade" throughout the book and if something needed to be memorized she has a "Memorize This" symbol. Rita also gives you a list of equations you need to memorize (Ch14), again, I'm glad I did, got several questions correct as a result.
I wish I had spent more time memorizing her process chart (Ch 3), I was tripped up on more than one "what to do next" type question on the exam.
Overall, this is THE book to use for preparing for the PMP exam.
I finished the 200 questions with only 5 minutes to spare but I PASSED on the first attempt!
Good Investment February 27, 2010 Jason B. Brown I like the 'tricks of the trade' tips and study aids. The book does break things down into understandable and practical terms. I am just in the beginning, but I feel this book, along with online practice tests, will definitely help me to prepare and pass the PMP certification exam. I am awaiting approval of my application, so it won't be long now. I would recommend this product to anyone. Also, definitely buy it from Amazon, as it is cheaper and Rita probably isn't losing that money on the sale. Now I can see why Rita is *the* name in PMP exam preparation.
Somewhat good study guide February 27, 2010 candis (usa) After reading all the reviews (some good, some bad) I decided to be impartial and purchase this studyguide. Most of the reviews are accurate about the style of writing, (i.e., condesending, and discouraging). It is somewhat discouraging for a beginner who is trying to get in the field of PM to read someone telling you "if you don't have any PM experience, you should not attempt this exam". However, I still use this guide to get the information that I need to pass the exam!
Very nice book February 24, 2010 Daniel E. Elias 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is very helpful for who desires pass in the PMP Exam by its completeness, as well the way that the author explores the subjects. I recommend it for everybody (no matters if you will take the exam or not).
You want this book, just not for passing the exam. February 23, 2010 J. Mosier (Apex, NC) I would give this book 5 stars if not for the bias in it and that is really is not so much an "Exam Prep" book like the title would indicate. It is however a wonderful resource that I will use often and would recommend to anyone that performs project management. Rita's bias toward wanting only those that really perform PM and those that really understand PM principles should pass the exam is a noble one, though not the norm in this society. With the additions of the, "why you might fail the exam" sections and the odd method of knowledge area approach rather than process group approach, I can not recommend this as the only book you might want to pass the exam. However, this book along with the Andy Crowe book is a great combination. I will probably never look at Andy's book again, but feel it is a valuable resource if you are studying for the exam. So take my advise, get them both, read them cover to cover twice before sitting for the exam.
