Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
If you have New England in your blood, you will enjoy these vignettes about hurricanes, clambakes at the farm, walks by the sea and reminiscences about the Fourth of July and Christmas past. Virginia Leaper's work is not all about bygone days, however. Included are her pithy, thoughtful and often controversial pieces on current events and world affairs. These pieces have often evoked both pro and con response from readers.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Delightful Yankee's not Cranky at all.   July 16, 2008
Virginia Leaper's The Cranky Yankee offers a rare combination of fun, reminiscences and a thoughtful look at politics and important issues of our day. I particularly liked her thoughts on aging as she advocates in favor of providing maximum comfort to people in the final days. Don't miss her trip across the US en route to California or the hilarious story of her day as a census taker when she nearly decreased the census by one by daring to visit the Manson Family, census clipboard in hand. This is a great read and time well spent curled up with a beautifully crafted book.

4 out of 5 stars A fine reader's feast   May 16, 2008
In The Cranky Yankee, Virginia Leaper has served up a smorgasbord of good writing: memoirs of New England days go by, her adventures in New York and California, and her spicy opinions on contemporary politics. With her fine eye for detail and her actor's sense of timing, she reminisces without sentiment or banality. Not to be missed is her account of visiting the Manson Family's den of iniquity when she was a Census taker in the 1960s.

5 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful insight into events that matter to all of us.   May 9, 2008
This is a wonderful insight into events that matter to all of us.

I also love the fact that the publisher, 1stWorld Library (or 1stWolrd Publishing) has made the text slightly larger which is a blessing for my thirty-something eyes. Great job. I have dozens of books by this publisher.
