We use this book as a point of reference. It is very easy to read and provides real world examples.

4 out of 5 stars Great book   October 19, 2008

This is great book that really gets down to the nitty and gritty details of VI3. The book does a decent job as a training manual for VMware's VI3, but mostly it is just a reference manual, a very comprehensive reference manual.

In regards to the book itself, the book is an awkward shape and size. It's smaller then most books in height and especially width (the book is a little skinny). I would have liked the book to be a more standard format (9x6.6/9x7), maybe then there would be fewer pages and the book would be easier to handle and read. Also then it would fit on the bookshelf next to the other books much better.

5 out of 5 stars Playbook and an interesting read   October 12, 2008
I bought the previous revision of this book when I stepped into my first VMware environment consisting of two SANs, six hosts, and a lot of questions. It was fairly insightful but lacked enough support of VI3.5. Now that I am running a global VM infrastructure with 3.5 throughout, it was time to upgrade the text. I was not disappointed. I have essentially based the new production farms' configs on examples from this book (tweaked for our environment) but the underlying logic has earned several compliments from VMware support.

For those of you who enjoy reading about technology in bed before embarking on a new adventure, this one actually comes along on pleasure trips as well. It's fun.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book   October 6, 2008
This is a very good book and I'm looking forward for the next books from these three gurus.

I've been implementing virtualization solutions for three years now and this is a very handy book !!

Kind regards
