Excellent resource for SQL Server 2008 November 29, 2008 I bought this book as soon as it came out when it was the only SQL Server 2008 book that had been released.
There were no references at the time of my purchase but I went with my instinct and I'm very happy with my purchase.
This book very well written and is a great resource. I was very impressed.
If you buy this book you will not be disappointed.
THE BEST SQL ADMIN RESOURCE. PERIOD. November 19, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Stanek knows more about Windows technologies than anyone else on the planet. His pocket consultant guide series is incredible. If he's written a book on a subject it is where I always start my studies. He's never let me down. His books are packed with information, clear, and concise.
I bought this book the day it came out, and I have been using it almost daily ever since. I read it cover to cover, put as much as I could to memory, and dog eared dozens of pages to quickly refer to the rest.
The series title may lead you to think this is lightweight but the pocket consultants certainly are not lightweight. They are heavy-duty, industrial strength power tools that dive right in to what matters. This book, SQL Server 2008 Administrator's Pocket Consultant, is 700 pages. There's nothing pocket-sized about a 700 page book. There is however absolutely the feeling that you've got a world-class SQL Server guru right beside you in your pocket.
This book focuses on the core of SQL Server 2008, and it does so better than any other book I've ever come across. As always Stanek packs in the details. There's a reason Stanek's books are so highly regarded, and it's because he is the best at what he does. Whether you are a developer or admin, beginner or pro, this book is a required resource.
