Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

If you've wondered how the InDesign pros get twice the work done in half the time, here's why: They know every inside tip, every hidden keyboard shortcut, and every little trick that gives them the edge. They know the fastest, smartest, and most efficient way to do just about everything. In short, they know all the "tricks of the trade." But you can too.

That's because you're holding a book that is nothing but tips. It's packed cover-to-cover, wall-to-wall with nothing but those cool little inside tips that can make you faster, better, and have more fun using Adobe inDesign CS. There's no detailed descriptions on working with hyphenation dictionaries, or long boring discussions on color workflow--it's just tips--short, sweet, and to the point.

So why just tips? When we (you, me, etc.) look at books, if we see the word "Tip" we're all immediately drawn to it. That's because we know we're about to learn something really cool. Maybe it's an undocumented keyboard shortcut, a hidden inside secret, or just a faster, better way to do something we do every day. The only problem with the tips in these books is, there's never enough of 'em. That is, until now.

We wanted to create a book that is nothing but these tips, hundreds of tips, but with added bonus that each tip would have a full color graphic along with it, showing you exactly how it's done. Most importantly, to get in this book they've got to be "Killer Tips" The kind of tip that makes you smile, nod, and then call all your friends and "tune them up" with your new status as InDesign guru.

This book is your ticket to working faster and smarter in Adobe InDesign CS than you ever thought you could, and best of all, you'll have a blast doing it.

5 out of 5 stars InDesign CS Killer Tips   July 12, 2007
I really like the way Scott Kelby writes. He is clear and anecdotal and funny. This book doesn't substitute for a manual for InDesign and it doesn't pretend to do so. It clarifies a lot of information in manuals.

5 out of 5 stars indesign cs killer tips   April 15, 2005

Best layed-out computer book i've ever seen! Beautiful, glossy heavy wieght paper, also. There are about 2 tips for each page. Illustrations look EXACTLY how they look on screen (mac osx). the simplisity of this book is perfect for people like me who are so far jammed up the creative side of their brains that they even walk with a limp! Expert users might complain about some of the tips not being "killer"...

But, if you're an expert already, why are you reading the book anyhow?! Let the subject learn how to get into the castle from the back door!

You might need another book if you're learning InDesign CS, but, this one is a keeper! get this one without a dout!

5 out of 5 stars Buy the book, and spend more time designing not reading!   March 10, 2005

I bought this book in a quick fix attempt to learn Indesign 2.0 at the last minute for a 150 page book layout, with cover. I only had very short deadline and no time to read big books. While I was still in the bookstore, it answered a question I had about importing excell documents (which I'd consider worth the cost of the book right there). While developing my layout, I would flip though the book find a great tip and then try it right out.

Much of the book still applied to 2.0. The parts that didn't, really just made me want to upgrade to CS even faster.

I paid full price for the book at Borders and I would do it again. I feel it save me about 10-15 hours worth of work on this one project alone. That's alot of money or free time, depending on how you look at it!

1 out of 5 stars Known shortcuts, very small book high price   February 14, 2005

I bought this book thinking I would find some shortcuts for ID CS. If you have no idea what you're doing in ID you might have some use from it. However, if you've bought the Visual Quickstart by Sandee Cohen or practically any other book on ID you will bu lucky if you find 4 or 5 undocumented shortcuts. A real ripoff in my opinion. I promptly sent it back for a refund. A lot of pictures; not a lot of information.

4 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Money!   July 1, 2004

This was a great buy! I've recently switched from Quark to InDesign (with no official training!) and this book helped a lot. It isn't the most detailed, it's not a bible, but it does deliver the "killer tips" that are so very necessary to working with this program day in & out! Yes, a lot of them are common knowledge, but it was worth the money for the dozen or so that are not to be found anywhere in the help menus, you know the ones that make you giggle as you realize how much time you're gonna save!
