Product Description
ARE YOU READY FOR AN AMAZING NEW VERSION OF THE PHOTOSHOP BOOK THAT BREAKS ALL THE RULES?
Scott Kelby, the best-selling Photoshop author in the world today, once again takes this book to a whole new level as he uncovers the latest, most important, and most exciting new Adobe Photoshop CS4 techniques for digital photographers. This major update to his award-winning, record-breaking book does something for digital photographers that’s never been done before–it cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own settings or figure it out on your own. Instead, Scott shows you step-by-step the exact techniques used by today’s cutting-edge digital photographers, and best of all, he shows you flat-out exactly which settings to use, when to use them, and why. That’s why the previous editions of this book are widely used as the official study guide in photography courses at colleges and universities around the world.

LEARN HOW THE PROS DO IT
Each year Scott trains thousands of professional photographers how to use Photoshop, and almost without exception they have the same questions, the same problems, and the same challenges–and that’s exactly what he covers in this book. You’ll learn:

• The sharpening techniques the pros really use.
• The pros’ tricks for fixing the most common digital photo problems fast!
• The step-by-step setup for getting what comes out of your printer to match exactly what you see onscreen.
• A whole chapter on how to process HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.
• How to master new CS4 interface and workflow features.
• How to color correct any photo without breaking a sweat.
• How to process RAW digital camera images (plus how to take advantage of all the new Camera Raw features in CS4!).
• How to add real automation to your work.
• How to show your work like a pro!
• A host of shortcuts, workarounds, and slick “insider” tricks to send your productivity through the roof!

Plus, Scott included a special bonus chapter with his own CS4 workflow, from start to finish. If you’re a digital photographer, and you’re ready to learn the “tricks of the trade”–the same ones that today’s leading pros use to correct, edit, sharpen, retouch, and present their work–then you’re holding the book that will do just that.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing   August 3, 2010

There is so much left out of this book that it is becoming frustrating to open it. I bought it as a rookie. When I can find what I need, the instructions are good, but more often than not, what I need can't be found. Not even basic stuff. He stopped before he completed the book.

5 out of 5 stars Unleashing Photoshop!   June 30, 2010

To put it simply, this book is great. It is completely practical in that it addresses most of the every-day things I wanted to do with photoshop and there is hardly anything in it that I didn't find helpful. But it also unleashed Photoshop for me in that I learned about things I just didn't imagine any software could do.

Most of what I previously knew was learned by trial and error and using basic documentation. I found ways to do things I needed to do but I knew they weren't always the most effective ways, or I found that I got it almost there but some things just weren't quite right. I also knew that I was just scratching the surface of the power of Photoshop.

Then comes Scott Kelby. I know there are a lot of good books that teach much of what is in this book. However I think this book stands out for several reasons. It hits so many of the key topics I want to learn. It's concise but not overly brief. His step-by-step teaching is very easy to follow and understand. He is very thorough and also typically explains why one way is better than another possible way of accomplishing the same thing. The new techniques I learned were often things I never would have figured out on my own but were easy and powerful once explained to me. Some of the techniques were things I wouldn't have thought existed. He also interjects his own goofy brand of humor throughout the book. (It may not work for everyone but I found it did lighten up the book and gave me the occasional chuckle.)

The end result for me is that on many of my finished photos, I'm gonna have to go back to the original proofs and re-edit them. But they're gonna be a lot better when I'm done with them.

5 out of 5 stars I really needed this.   June 5, 2010

I have an older issue of this book for an earlier copy of CS. When I upgraded to CS4, I could no longer get good prints from my printer. I knew that I had to have something set wrong in the printer portion of the program, but didn't know what. I turned to that part of the book explaining how to set photoshop up for printing. First print out was just what I had wanted. If I didn't get anything else out of this book, that one thing was worth the whole price. Thing is there is a lot more to learn and the book explains it all very well. If you have never read any of Scott Kelby's books, you might not know how good a teacher he is. He is able to explain it all very well. Get the book and as newer issues of CS are issued make sure that you pick up the updates. I keep this next to my computer at all times, and refer to it often.

5 out of 5 stars A must-have book on Photoshop   May 20, 2010
Rob Huddleston (Sacramento, CA USA)
Kelby has long been recognized as the premiere author for books on Photoshop and digital photography, and this latest edition of his seminal book on Photoshop will continue to further that reputation.
Unlike so many dry computer manual, Kelby's books are loaded with full-color photos and screen shots, explaining and illustrating every step and showing the progress of the images you are editing as you work. The book is also written with Kelby's usual humor, making it that much more fun to read.
While the book is targeted at beginning Photoshop users, even more experienced users are sure to benefit from its insights. I can recommend this book without reservation to anyone using Adobe's flagship image editing tool.
